Medusa was no monster. She was a rape victim who was punished, disfigured, and banished to an isolated island. Her tale resembles the treatment many women have endured in a society where beauty and knowledge are deemed to be a weapon that must be conquered. There are many pieces of her story that can still be unraveled under the modern woman’s gaze, including turning the people that approached her to stone, and being murdered by a so called Hero. As I develop the images, I will update this base and share where and when they can be seen. I am considering a group show with collaborations with other artists in different mediums. Until then, lets play with changing the ending, and imagining her conquering Perseus.
